General English

General English is an intensive ESL (English as a Second Language) course designed for students who wish to improve their English for communication, job, and travel purposes. Classes are organised according to the student's level of English, which is determined with our own testing system.

Subject and Hours
• Reading and Writing 18.25 hours per week
• Listening and Speaking 11.25 hours per week
• Conversation Classes 2 hours per week
• Workshop (one-to-one tutoring) 30 minutes per week
• Pronunciation Class 1 hour per week
→ TOTAL 26.5 Hours per week

After completing the course you will be able to:
• hold a conversation in English with your teacher.
• listen and respond to natural Kiwi speech.
• read general texts and express a personal viewpoint in both oral and written form.
• hold a conversation about your own life and country and cultural differences you have noticed in New Zealand.
• go shopping, banking, order a meal in a restaurant, use public transport, use the public library, visit the Doctor and others.

IELTS Preparation

• Available: Wellington and Auckland
• Maximum Students per Class: 16

IELTS Exam Preparation course prepares students for successful university study in English, as well as for sitting the IELTS exam, Academic or General Module, depending on the requirements of the particular student. The programme achieves a balance of language development and exam preparation, both of which are necessary for achieving a good IELTS result. Students have access to a large range of IELTS practice materials, and every Friday students can sit a practice IELTS exam under exam conditions. The Campbell Institute is also an official IELTS Pre-Testing centre.

Every student has the opportunity for a 60-minute practice speaking interview with an IELTS-trained interviewer (no extra cost).

IELTS courses start every Monday and classes are divided according to the individual's needs and current level.

Cambridge Exam Preparation (FCE & CAE)

• Maximum Students per Class: 12
• Level: FCE: Intermediate/ CAE: Upper Intermediate
• Duration: 2-48 weeks

Cambridge Preparation courses prepare students for sitting the Cambridge First Certificate in English (FCE) or Advanced Certificate (CAE). The programmes achieve a balance of language development and exam preparation, both of which are necessary for achieving good results. Students have access to a large range of Exam practice materials, and every week students can sit a practice exam, under exam conditions.

• Advanced Reading and Writing: 4 hours per week
• Advanced Listening and Speaking: 4 hours per week
• Exam Preparation: 12 hours per week
• Exam Practice: 3 hours per week
• Pronunciation Class: 1 hour per week
• Conversation Classes: 2 hours per week
• Workshop (one-to-one tutoring): 30 minutes per week

High School Preparation

• Age: 14 or older at commencement of course
• English: Open (any level)
• Previous Study: Must meet entry criteria for NZ High School
• Start Date: Continuous Enrolment (any Monday)
• Duration: 2 - 48 weeks
• Days: Monday to Friday
• Hours: 9am to 3:30pm

Study English before going to a New Zealand High School. Suitable for students of all levels of English. Programme content will depend on level, and includes Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. Preparation also includes orientation to New Zealand education system and the required study skills for success, including time management, process writing, and self-study skills.

After completing the course you will be able to:

• think critically and express opinions
• study successfully in a high school environment
