General English

General English courses are for students who want to improve their overall English language skills. In General English you will study 25 hours a week with a first-rate teacher; and class sizes are always kept small. General English students can also take advantage of the 'English Club', 'Friday Options', and 'Saturday Explorers Club', which are outlined later in this page. General English classes provide the best possible opportunities for students looking to make rapid progress in their English studies.

General English classes begin at 9:00 and finish at 3:00 pm. Each General English class has 25 hours study a week, 5 hours each day. Each class has two teachers; a morning teacher and an afternoon teacher.

On Fridays you can choose from a range of Options classes. If you would like extra tuition, then join our English Club, where you can receive free conversation lessons from trainee teachers.

Extra Services: Friday Options Classes
Every Friday you can choose to study a different type of lesson. This is to give our students broader range of study, and to keep lessons fresh and interesting. Some Options are for serious study, such as the Exam Preparation Class, while other options follow more relaxed pace, such as the Listening Class. You choose your option when you enroll, and changes are possible if you talk to the Director of Studies.

English Club
English Club is an extra service provided by Greenwich College. Lessons are provided by trainee-teachers, and it is free to join. English Club gives General English students the chance to obtain extra English lessons, and provides trainee-teachers with the opportunity to work with real students. All English Club meetings are under the control of qualified teacher. English club operates from Monday to Thursday most weeks of the year. When demand for the English Club is high, students may be asked to pay a refundable deposit to reserve their place in a class.

IELTS Preparation

Greenwich's IELTS courses have two levels, a lower level called Pre-IELTS Preparation and an advanced IELTS Preparation.

The IELTS course helps students prepare for the IELTS exam. This exam is used for similar purposes to the TOEFL examination. There are two modules, General and Academic. Students must have an Academic IELTS result between 6.0 or 7.0 for university entry. Students planning to enter TAFE, business or other colleges or who are seeking residency in Australia need between 5.0 and 6.0 in the General IELTS module. High school students need 5.5 in the General module for most schools. The exam has four parts: speaking, reading, writing and listening.

The Greenwich IELTS course prepares students for the exam. It trains students to understand the exams structure and the expectations of the examiners, as well as the language and the time needed for each part of the exam. Entrance to the course is possible at any point in the course's 16-week cycle.

Cambridge Course

This 10 ? 12 week course is well known all over the world as an excellent English Language course. It is ideal if you want to work or study abroad or to develop a career which requires language skills. PET/FCE/CAE indicates sufficient proficiency in English to be of practical use in jobs in many industries where contact with English speakers is required. Successful candidates have the ability to deal with routine letters and telephone enquiries, and to cope with some non-academic training courses and simple textbooks and articles. The course is designed to prepare students for the PET/FCE/CAE exam which covers five areas (Speaking, Listening, Reading, Writing, and Use of English).

English for Academic Purposes

This course is designed especially for students looking to study in universities and colleges in Australia. Greenwich College has numerous academic pathways that enable graduates from this program to meet the English proficiency requirements for entry into some of Australia’s finest universities.

EAP is designed to improve students' academic English language skills before going on to higher education in an English-speaking country. The focus is on helping students to be successful at the tasks done at university, such as seminar presentations, essay assignments and listening and understanding lectures.

Communicative learning methods are used to improve your English as quickly as possible. Assessments focus on the kind of tasks you will have to undertake at university. On successful completion of the course, not only will your English have improved, but you will be well prepared for university study and will also have a qualification.

This course offers students the opportunity to learn the skills they will need to conduct business in a global environment. Developed by an experienced team of program developers, in consultation with industry, we address the essential skills for business communications today. Three focused modules provide a functional approach to learning in areas of Administration, Sales & Marketing and Management.
