Hosted by the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the Next Wave Festival has been an annual event since the early 1980s, and presents several weeks of contemporary performance, artist talks, storytelling, visual art, and film.
Normally kicking off during the first week in September and running into January, all of the Next Wave Festival shows are typically held at BAM’s 250-seat Eclipse Theater, which is located at 30 Lafayette Avenue in Brooklyn.
The 2014 Next Wave Festival calendar is packed with a wide-range of events, and might feature silent movie screenings, traditional theater, cabaret, book readings, circus acts, and more.
Past Next Wave Festival performers have included award-winning troupe, The Builders Association, performing vignettes from John Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath, circus artist Daniele Finzi Pasca, modern-day retellings of Shakespeare, trapeze acts set to music by Nick Cave, radio plays, and countless other diverse shows.
Next Wave Festival 2014 tickets are usually around $14$20. Passes to the entire Next Wave Festival season are also available, and usually work out to a 2030% discount per ticket.
