Intensive English Program
This 30-lesson per week program is ELC's most popular and covers all of the major language skills including: grammar, vocabulary, conversation, pronunciation, listening comprehension, reading, and writing. All high intermediate and advanced students also have a choice of electives two afternoons per week. Students in the Intensive English Program study Monday through Friday during sections A, B and C on the course schedule listed above.

Semi-Intensive English Program
Also one of ELC's most popular programs, this 20-lesson per week course is designed to improve communication skills and is perfect for students who want to study English in the mornings and enjoy ELC's beautiful cities in the afternoons. Students enrolled in this program meet for classes during sections A and B, as shown in the General Course Schedule listed above.

Individual Intensive English Program
Students of any level may choose to study English on a one-to-one basis. In such cases, you will find the scheduling is quite flexible. The course of study, based on an initial needs assessment, can be tailored to meet your individual goals and requests.

Combination Course
This program is designed for students who wish to combine group work in General English with individualized work in a special area of English, such as Business English, legal English or medical English. Students in the Combination Course study General English (20 lessons per week) during sections A and B of the class schedule listed above and take private classes (10 lessons per week) during section C.

Part-time Program
Students with limited time for studying English may choose to enroll for one period per day (A, B, or C only). Please note that part-time students are not eligible for the I-20 or housing assistance.

TOEFL Preparation Program
TOEFL Preparation
Offered year-round to high intermediate and advanced students, TOEFL Preparation is an intensive, 30-lesson per week course. It combines 20 lessons of General English and 10 lessons focusing on TOEFL preparation and academic skills. Students are trained to take both the Internet based TOEFL and the paper-based TOEFL.
ㆍLevel requirements: Intermediate to Advanced
ㆍClass size: Average 8-10 students, Maximum 12 students, 14 during (July and August only)
ㆍNumber of lessons (per week): 20 lessons General English plus 10 lessons TOEFL (group)

ㆍAge: Minimum of 17 years old. No maximum age requirement
ㆍOffered: Year-round

Cambridge Exam Preparation Program
Cambridge Exam Preparation
Offered for both 11 weeks and 8 weeks in all locations, as well as 10 weeks, 6 weeks, and 5 weeks in Santa Barbara, these courses prepare students to pass either the Cambridge First Certificate (FCE) or the Certificate of Advanced English (CAE). The FCE is the most widely recognized proof of language ability at the upper intermediate level. The CAE also has tremendous popularity as an assessment of advanced abilities in English. Students in the FCE and CAE Preparation Courses focus on not only passing the final examination, but also on improving their general accuracy and fluency in English. These are dedicated courses, limited to FCE and CAE students who will take the exam at its conclusion. Students in the 8-week course join the 11-week course in progress. All students must successfully pass a pre-test in order to participate in these courses. All three ELC locations are proud to be official University of Cambridge testing centers.
